How to update data using Google Spreadsheets

What can this do?

This feature allows you to update the data through automation into Google Spreadsheets. From time to time, you may require your customers to update their details or information.

Setting up your flow and configuring Google Spreadsheet

Create your flow elements, in this example, we will ask the user to update their location.

  1. Go to Automation
  2. Flows
  3. + Add Flow
  4. Drag elements on the left to create your flow
  5. Add Google Spreadsheet node at the entry point after last input of data

Connecting to the Google Spreadsheet node:

  1. Hover over the edit button on the Google Spreadsheet node
  2. Add your Google account and allow permissions
  3. Select the spreadsheet you want the data to be updated in
  4. Select which sheet tab of the spreadsheet for data input update
  1. Select Update a row
  2. Reference Column - input reference against the field you want to be updated
  3. Update in and by - the field(s) you wish to be updated

Click "Save" and save your flow too.

Setting up the keywords: Now you need to configure the keywords for this flow so that the user can trigger the flow

  1. Go to Automation
  2. Keyword Action
  3. Add Keyword Action

Enter the unique keyword that you want the user to be able to trigger the flow, we will use "update location data", you can choose exact matching or fuzzy matching.

  1. Click on the next step
  2. Flows
  3. Search the name of your flow
  4. Tick the box of the flow and save

How to Test

Use your registered WATI account number and type in the keyword "Update location data" to activate the flow.

The sheet has automatically updated the location data because it used the name and phone number to cross-reference.

Remember to save versions of the Google Spreadsheet in your own database, as it will override data automatically each time the user triggers the flow
