Summary
The Wati Model Context Protocol (MCP) server lets you manage your Wati workspace using natural language through an AI assistant such as ChatGPT or Claude. Instead of switching between dashboards, you can ask your AI assistant to manage contacts, review conversations, send WhatsApp messages, monitor campaigns, analyse customer data, and perform multiple tasks in a single request. If Astra is enabled for your Wati account, you can also build, manage, and improve your Astra AI agents from the same conversation.
This guide introduces the capabilities available in the Wati MCP server and includes example prompts to help you get started.

Use Wati and Astra together
If Astra is enabled for your Wati account, you can manage your Wati workspace and Astra AI agents from the same conversation. This allows you to combine customer insights with AI agent management using a single prompt.
1. Improve an Astra AI agent using customer conversations
Use customer conversations to identify knowledge gaps and improve your Astra AI agent.
Example prompt
Review customer conversations from the past 30 days where customers asked about refunds. Identify the most common questions my Support Agent couldn't answer, update the agent's instructions to handle those questions better, and test the updated agent with three sample refund conversations.
This prompt will:
Review customer conversations.
Identify common unanswered refund questions.
Update the Astra AI agent's instructions.
Test the updated Astra AI agent.
2. Build an Astra AI agent and analyse customer conversations
Build a new Astra AI agent and immediately evaluate how it could support your existing customer conversations.
Example prompt
Build a customer support AI agent using content from https://mywebsite.com, publish the agent, then review my recent customer conversations and identify which conversations the new agent would have been able to resolve automatically.
This prompt will:
Build and publish an Astra AI agent.
Review recent customer conversations.
Identify conversations the Astra AI agent could have resolved automatically.
3. Improve your knowledge base using customer conversations
Identify knowledge gaps from customer conversations and improve your AI experience.
Example prompt
Find the most frequently asked customer questions from the last 90 days that my AI agent couldn't answer, create FAQ overrides for those questions, and add new knowledge base articles covering the missing information.
This prompt will:
Analyse customer conversations.
Identify unanswered customer questions.
Create FAQ overrides.
Add new knowledge base articles to address missing information.
4. Report issues and feedback
If you encounter an unexpected error or discover a capability that you'd like the Wati MCP server to support, you can ask your AI assistant to report it.
Example prompts
Report the error I just encountered while updating my agent.
Report that I'd like the Wati MCP server to support bulk contact updates.
Submit feedback that campaign filtering should support labels.
Combine multiple tasks in a single request
One of the biggest advantages of the Wati MCP server is that it can complete multiple related tasks within the same conversation. Instead of sending separate prompts, you can combine actions across your Wati workspace and Astra AI agents into a single request.
Example prompt
Find high-value customers who haven't replied in the last 30 days, create a win-back list, and suggest a WhatsApp campaign to re-engage them.
Authenticate your Wati account
The first time you use the Wati MCP server, your AI assistant will guide you through signing in to your Wati account.
If your authentication session expires, your AI assistant will prompt you to sign in again before continuing.
Important notes
Some actions, such as sending WhatsApp messages and WhatsApp template messages, interact with real customers. Your AI assistant will always ask for confirmation before completing these actions.
Regular WhatsApp messages can only be sent within 24 hours of a customer's last message. If the 24-hour customer service window has expired, you must use a WhatsApp template message to continue the conversation.
When your AI assistant requests permission to perform an action, choose Always allow to let it complete follow-up actions automatically during the current conversation, or choose Allow once to require confirmation before each action.
Your AI assistant can only perform actions that your Wati account has permission to perform.
Astra AI agent capabilities are available only if Astra is enabled for your Wati account.
Available capabilities may vary depending on your Wati plan and enabled features.
