Common Reasons WhatsApp Message Sender Isn't Working
If your messages aren’t being sent, here are the top things to check:
1. The Phone Number Isn’t Registered on WhatsApp
Even if the phone number format is correct, the number must also be registered with WhatsApp.
The format status in WhatsApp Message Sender only checks whether the number format is valid.
It doesn’t check if the number is actually on WhatsApp.
To verify the WhatsApp status of a number, go to your Campaign History in Wati. There, you'll see whether a message was successfully sent or if the number is invalid.
2. You’ve Run Out of Credits
Your WhatsApp messages won’t go through if your Wati account has insufficient credits.
Visit your Wati dashboard to check your current credit balance.
If needed, top up your credits before trying to send messages again.
3. The Endpoint Isn’t Set or Saved Correctly
Before you save the endpoint and token, make sure to test them.
Go to your WhatsApp Message Sender settings.
Click Test to ensure the endpoint and token are working.
If the test is successful, then save the configuration.
4. Mismatch Between Template Parameters and Phone Numbers
The number of template parameters must match the number of phone numbers selected.
For example, if you select 2 cells for the template parameters, make sure you select 2 phone numbers as well.
Any mismatch will prevent messages from being sent.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
General questions
1. Why are my WhatsApp messages not sending from Google Sheets?
Messages usually fail due to issues like unregistered phone numbers, insufficient credits, incorrect endpoint setup, or mismatched template parameters.
2. Does a valid phone number format mean the number is on WhatsApp?
No. A valid format only confirms the number structure. The number must also be registered on WhatsApp to receive messages.
3. How can I check if a phone number is registered on WhatsApp?
You can check this in your Campaign History in Wati, where message delivery status indicates whether the number is valid or not.
Account and credit issues
4. What happens if my Wati account runs out of credits?
Messages will not be sent if your account has insufficient credits. You need to top up your balance before retrying.
5. Where can I check my available message credits?
You can view your current credit balance directly from your Wati dashboard.
Setup and configuration
6. Why is testing the endpoint important before saving it?
Testing ensures that the endpoint and access token are valid and working correctly. Saving without testing may result in message failures.
7. What should I do if the endpoint test fails?
Recheck your endpoint URL and access token in the WhatsApp Message Sender settings, then test again before saving.
Templates and parameters
8. Why do template parameters need to match phone numbers?
Each phone number requires a corresponding set of template parameters. A mismatch between the two will prevent messages from being triggered.
9. How can I avoid template and phone number mismatches?
Make sure the number of selected cells for template parameters exactly matches the number of phone numbers you select in the sheet.
