Understanding contact owner and lead stage attributes

Updated over a week ago

Summary

Wati has introduced two new sales attributes - Contact owner and Lead stage - to help you manage and track customer interactions more effectively. These attributes make it easier to assign responsibility for contacts and follow them through different stages of your sales process. This article explains how they work, how to set them up, and what to keep in mind when using them.

Availability

The Contact owner and Lead stage attributes are available only for Pro and Business plan customers.

Instructions

Contact owner

The Contact owner attribute allows you to assign ownership of a contact to a specific user in Wati. This ensures accountability and makes it easier to track who is managing which customer.

Ways to assign a contact owner

Assign manually

  • Select an owner from the dropdown menu in the contact view.

  • The dropdown will display all user agents created in your Wati account.

  • You can also choose to leave the field blank if no owner is needed.

Assign automatically via Team Inbox

  • Go to Team Inbox settings.

  • Enable the option Make assignee as contact owner.

  • Once enabled, whenever a user agent is assigned to a conversation, that agent will automatically become the contact owner.

Additional notes

  • When importing contacts, you can include the contact_owner attribute in your file.

  • Make sure the value matches the exact name of an existing user agent in your Wati account, or the import will not assign the owner correctly.

Lead stage

The Lead stage attribute helps you track where a contact is in your sales process. You can assign and update stages directly from a dropdown menu in the contact view.

Default lead stage values

  • New lead

  • Contacted

  • Qualified

  • Proposal sent

  • Deal won

  • Deal lost

By default, every new contact is assigned the New lead stage.

Customizing lead stages

  • You can add new stage values to match your sales process.

  • You can edit the names of any existing stages.

  • You can delete stages, except for the following, which cannot be removed (but can be renamed):

    • New lead

    • Deal won

    • Deal lost

For a visual walkthrough, please check our step by step video tutorial to learn how to customise the lead stage.

Important: Before deleting a stage, ensure that no active contacts are currently assigned to it.
