Updated over a week ago

Summary

This article walks you through how WhatsApp Calling is charged, the minimum wallet balance you need to keep calls running smoothly, and what happens if your balance runs out mid-call. You’ll also learn about free inbound calls, how outbound charges work, and the trial credits you get when you first enable the feature.

Instructions

Wati’s WhatsApp Calling feature lets you connect with your customer directly through voice calls. Outbound calls are charged per minute based on the connected call duration, and these charges are deducted from your Wati wallet. The same wallet is also used for your Campaigns and Broadcasts.

Inbound WhatsApp calls are completely free, allowing your customer to reach you at no cost to your business.

There is no separate wallet for WhatsApp Calling. All usage charges are drawn from your existing Wati wallet. To ensure uninterrupted outbound calling:

  • Indian customers (INR plans): Maintain a minimum wallet balance of ₹500

  • All other customers (USD plans): Maintain a minimum wallet balance of $10

You can open the wallet in your Wati account at any time to check your balance, review pricing and charges details, or add credits.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Wallet and balance

1. What happens if my wallet balance runs out during an active outbound WhatsApp call?

  • If your balance depletes while a call is in progress, we will not disconnect the call. It will continue until either the customer or your operator ends it, which may result in a negative wallet balance.

  • To place new outbound calls, your wallet must first be topped up to at least ₹500 (INR plans) or $10 (USD plans).

  • For uninterrupted operations, we recommend enabling auto top-up or adding credits based on your expected usage.

2. Can I make an outbound WhatsApp call if my balance is being used by a messaging campaign?

Yes, as long as your wallet meets the minimum required balance - ₹500 for Indian customers (INR plans) or $10 for others (USD plans) - at the moment the call is initiated. If the required balance is available, the call will proceed.

Call charges

3. Are inbound WhatsApp calls charged?

No. All inbound WhatsApp calls are free of charge.

4. Can I view credit usage for WhatsApp Calling?

Credit usage history for outbound WhatsApp Calling will be available soon.

5. Can I try outbound WhatsApp Calling without any cost?

Yes. When you enable WhatsApp Calling for the first time, you receive $1 in free credits, which allows for roughly 10 minutes of outbound calling. This lets you explore and experience the feature before using your paid balance.

6. Am I charged if an outbound call doesn’t connect, is busy, or goes unanswered?

No. You are only charged for connected outbound calls. If the call doesn’t connect, is busy, or rings without being answered, no charges are applied.
