Summary
Astra can be connected to Wati using the Connect AI Agents feature, allowing Astra to act as an AI agent inside Wati. Once connected, Astra can learn from your historical Wati conversations, respond to customer messages, and seamlessly hand conversations over to human agents through the Wati Team Inbox when needed.
This guide explains how to connect Wati and Astra, configure escalation rules, deploy your Astra agent, and verify the integration in Wati.
Note: Connecting Astra to Wati via Connect AI Agents feature requires a Wati Pro or Business plan.

What you get with the Astra and Wati integration
Connecting Astra with Wati provides the following benefits:
Conversation history sync
Astra can import historical Wati conversations to improve training and provide more accurate responses based on real customer interactions.
Human agent escalation
When a conversation requires human assistance, Astra can automatically transfer the conversation to a human agent or team in the Wati Team Inbox.
Connect Wati with Astra
Follow the steps below to create and deploy an Astra agent connected to your Wati account:
Step 1: Sign in to Astra
You can access Astra directly from Wati.
Log into your Wati account.
Go to Astra and select Build Astra AI Agents.
Click Proceed to Astra.
You will be redirected to Astra and can sign in using your Wati credentials.
Step 2: Create an Astra agent
If you are new to Astra:
Select the agent role that best matches your use case.
Complete the onboarding flow.
If you already have an Astra account:
Go to Agents.
Click + New Agent.
Select the agent role you want to create.
Step 3: Configure the WhatsApp channel
Select WhatsApp as the channel.
Astra will pickup your business URL, if not - enter your business website URL.
Click Set up your agent.
Astra will:
Analyze your website content
Understand your business context
Apply recommended settings
Generate an AI agent based on your selections
Step 4: Configure escalation to a human agent
To allow Astra to hand conversations over to a human agent:
Open your agent configuration.
Navigate to the Escalation section.
Add instructions that tell the agent when to use an escalation action.
Example:
Use this action when the customer requests human assistance.
Click Actions.
Select Assign to team/user/bot.
Click Confirm.
Select the team member or user who should receive escalated conversations.
Click Save action.
Add the action to your agent instructions.
Click Save changes.
Step 5: Deploy the agent
Click Install agent.
Select the WhatsApp number connected to your Wati account.
If multiple numbers are connected, choose the desired number from the dropdown list.
Optionally enable conversation history sync.
You can sync up to 60 days of historical Wati conversations to improve the agent's understanding of customer interactions.
Click Save and deploy.
Verify the integration in Wati
After deployment:
Log in to your Wati account.
Click Astra from the main navigation menu.
You will see the Astra AI agent that was created during deployment.
When an Astra agent is deployed:
A corresponding AI agent is automatically created in Wati.
An automation rule is automatically created in Wati based on the Astra agent configuration.
The automation rule appears under Automations > Rules.
After completing these steps, Wati and Astra will be fully connected. Astra will begin learning from your historical chats, and escalations to human agents will flow smoothly into the Wati Team Inbox.
How to connect your Wati account with Astra (manual setup)
Note: If your Wati account is hosted on the EU data center (for example, your account URL looks like eu.wati.io/tenant_id), follow the steps below to create your Astra account and connect it with Wati:
Step 1: Create an Astra account
Sign up for Astra using the same email address as your Wati account.
Step 2: Start the Wati integration
Open Astra.
Go to Action Library.
Select any Wati action.
Click Set up manually.
Step 3: Get API credentials from Wati
Open your Wati account.
Navigate to Connectors > API > API Docs.
Copy the following values:
API Endpoint
Access Token
Step 4: Connect Wati to Astra
Return to Astra.
Paste the API Endpoint and Access Token into the corresponding fields.
Click Connect.
Step 5: Create and deploy your agent
Create a new Astra agent or select an existing one.
Choose WhatsApp as the communication channel.
Complete the remaining setup steps.
Deploy the agent.
