Phone Number Eligibility Requirements

Your phone number must meet all of the following requirements:

  • Valid phone number: The number must include the correct country and area code.

  • Can receive calls or SMS: You must be able to receive calls or SMS on the number for verification.

  • Not linked to another WhatsApp account: The number must not be associated with WhatsApp Personal, WhatsApp Business, or another WhatsApp application.

Types of Eligible Phone Numbers

You can use the following types of phone numbers for Wati verification.

1. Landline Numbers

Landline numbers are eligible if they can receive a voice one-time password (OTP).

Make sure you have access to the phone to receive the verification call.

2. Cell Phone Numbers

Cell phone numbers are eligible if they have not been used with WhatsApp in the last 6 months.

If the number was previously used with WhatsApp, it must remain inactive on WhatsApp for at least 6 months before you use it for Wati.

3. Toll-Free Numbers

Toll-free numbers, such as 1-800 numbers, are eligible if they can directly receive SMS or voice calls.

Numbers connected to an Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system are not supported because they cannot receive verification OTPs directly.

Country and Region Restrictions

The WhatsApp Business Platform is not available to businesses in the following countries and regions:

  • Cuba

  • Iran

  • North Korea

  • Syria

  • Crimea, Donetsk, and Luhansk regions of Ukraine

In addition, WhatsApp Messenger and WhatsApp Business app users in these countries and regions cannot receive messages sent through the WhatsApp Business Platform.

Important: Your Number Must Not Be Linked to Another WhatsApp Account

The phone number you use for Wati must not be linked to another WhatsApp application, including WhatsApp Personal or WhatsApp Business.

If the number is currently linked to another WhatsApp account, delete the existing WhatsApp account before using the number to sign up for Wati.
