Summary
Planning to connect your WhatsApp number to Wati using the Coexistence (CoEx) feature? This guide explains the current CoEx limitations, common issues you may encounter, and what to consider before using CoEx in production.
Instructions
What is Coexistence (CoEx)?
Coexistence (CoEx) is a feature developed and managed by Meta that allows you to connect your existing WhatsApp Business App number to platforms like Wati.
Note: Because CoEx is still evolving, you may experience some issues during setup or while using the feature. Some CoEx limitations and issues are related to Meta's infrastructure and are outside Wati's control.
Common issues you may encounter
CoEx-related issues typically fall into 2 categories:
A. Issues during the connection process
These issues may prevent your number from connecting successfully to Wati:
Account already linked to another Business Manager: You may see an error if your number is already associated with a different Meta Business Manager account.
Payment method or credit line issues: In some cases, an existing credit line on your WhatsApp Business Account (WABA) cannot be removed, which can block the connection.
WABA under review or temporarily disabled: After completing the connection, Meta may automatically place your WABA under review or temporarily disable it.
Business verification conflicts: After you connect your number using CoEx, your paid Business Verification status in the WhatsApp mobile app may be removed.
Note: If you try to re-enable your paid Business Verification status, the CoEx integration with Wati may be disconnected. Currently, you can have either the CoEx integration or paid Business Verification active, but not both at the same time.
B. Issues after the connection is completed
These issues do not block the connection but may affect your experience in Wati:
Existing chats may not sync immediately
Chats may sync initially but stop updating later
Some conversations may be missing due to sync issues
Note: Some of these behaviors are related to Meta's CoEx infrastructure and are outside Wati's control.
Feature limitations
The following features are not supported with CoEx:
WhatsApp Calling
WhatsApp Catalog
Recommendation before using CoEx
Before committing to a paid Wati subscription specifically for CoEx, we recommend testing whether CoEx works well for your setup.
Enable CoEx and complete the connection.
Test chat syncing and overall performance.
Confirm that CoEx meets your operational needs.
If you plan to use Wati in production, keep in mind that some of the limitations described above may still occur.
Alternative option
If you prefer a more stable setup, consider connecting your WhatsApp number to Wati using regular Embedded Signup (Cloud API) process.
The Embedded Signup (Cloud API) connection:
Does not depend on an existing WhatsApp Business App number.
Typically provides a more reliable experience.
Final note
Before activating CoEx, review the limitations in this guide and test the setup to make sure it meets your needs.
