Summary
Meta (WhatsApp) will discontinue its On-Premise WhatsApp Business API in 2025. To maintain uninterrupted WhatsApp service, businesses must transition to the WhatsApp Cloud API. This migration ensures continued communication capabilities and provides access to enhanced reliability, improved performance, and the latest WhatsApp Business features. This guide outlines the migration process, key differences, and required actions to ensure a seamless transition.
Instructions
Why Migrate to WhatsApp Cloud API?
Migrating to the WhatsApp Cloud API offers several advantages:
Enhanced Reliability and Scalability – The Cloud API leverages WhatsApp’s robust cloud infrastructure for improved stability and scalability.
Access to Latest Features – Get access to WhatsApp’s newest business features and updates. See the full list of API features here.
Improved Performance – Enjoy faster and more efficient message delivery through optimized infrastructure.
Key Technical Differences
As part of this transition, there are important changes to be aware of:
API Requests – Direct API calls to WhatsApp Cloud API endpoints (e.g.
/v1/messages, /v1/contacts
) will no longer be supported. Instead, all API requests must be routed through the Wati platform.Webhook Handling – Direct webhook registrations for WhatsApp events will be deprecated. Instead, all webhook events will be processed and forwarded through Wati.
Required Actions
To ensure a smooth transition, follow these steps:
1. Plan Update
Your current Developer Plan will be upgraded to the Growth Plan at no additional cost. Your subscription price remains unchanged. See plan details here.
If the Growth Plan does not meet your needs, please contact us to explore other options.
2. WhatsApp Business Account (WABA) Migration
We will migrate your existing WABA setup to the new Wati WhatsApp Cloud API environment.
This includes transferring your WABA configuration and settings.
The migration process typically takes 1-2 hours.
We will coordinate with you to schedule the migration at a convenient time. Note: Your WhatsApp message history and other data will not be migrated.
3. API Request & Webhook Updates (Critical Step)
This is a critical step that requires your development team’s direct involvement.
Upon migration, your current connection to the On-Premise server will be severed.
To continue using WhatsApp with Wati, your team must establish a new integration and update API requests accordingly. API documentation available here.
